Probing basics: Benefits of automated non-contact tool setting

Manually setting tools offline can be time consuming, inaccurate and result in costly errors. Offline methods rely on external measurements and the transfer of tools and data into the machine tool. As measurements are made with the tool in a different clamping condition to that used for cutting, systematic errors can be introduced between the measurement system and the machine tool.
