GTMA accredited to ISO 9001:2015 and moves towards ISO 27001

GTMA has recently established its credentials by successfully updating its quality management systems accreditation to ISO 9001:2015.

The association’s chief executive, Julia Moore, explains: “The adoption of a quality management system is a strategic decision for any organisation, and it can help to improve the overall performance and provide a sound basis for sustainable development initiatives. This is certainly our experience within the GTMA.”

Potential benefits to an organisation implementing a quality management system based on this International Standard include the ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements; facilitating opportunities to enhance customer satisfaction; addressing risks and opportunities associated with its context and objectives; the ability to demonstrate conformity to specified quality management system requirements.

Julia Moore states: “The GTMA’s mission is to promote the individual expertise of its members and the collective engineering resource represented by the association. We have focused on all the major high technology market sector opportunities, from aerospace to automotive and medical to marine, to ‘match’ the wants and needs of industry with the capabilities of our members. Our work with OEMs and first tier suppliers has seen initiatives to raise standards within our membership base, which is now seen as a valuable resource for buyers forming and reinforcing manufacturing supply chains in all industry sectors.”

As a UK-based trade association, GTMA enables the provision of supply chain solutions, technology transfer and industry sector events representing companies through the engineering supply chain. Certificate number CA14472 awarded in June 2017 on behalf of QAS International as being assessed and approved by QAS International.

In parallel with the work required to gain this latest standard the management team at the GTMA have also been working toward ISO 27001 accreditation. The ISO 27000 family of standards has been developed to help organisations keep information assets secure. ISO 27001 is the best-known standard in the family providing requirements for an Information Security Management System (ISMS).

An ISMS is a systematic approach to managing sensitive company information so that it remains secure. It includes people, processes and IT systems by applying a risk management process. It can help businesses of all sizes in any sector keep information assets secure.

“These standards are designed to help organisations manage the security of assets such as financial information, intellectual property, employee details or information entrusted by third parties. The importance of which has been highlighted by the global hacking of various institutions across the globe, including the NHS here in the UK. We take the responsibility of care for any information entrusted to us by members or industry partners very seriously, and that is why we are committed to attaining ISO 27001,” concludes Julia Moore.
